For
custom fitments more information is
needed, but it's really a simple procedure
and the results will be impressive.
The logical place to start is at the
point where the right fit is most noticeable,
at the outside of the tire.
By first
determining the ideal front spacing
needed to achieve just the right tire
to fender clearance, wheel width is
limited only by sufficient inner body
clearance. Budnik Wheels can build
your wheels with any backspace between
the established minimum and maximum
in 1/8" increments.
After
you have supported your vehicle under
the suspension with proper jack stands,
hang a weighted string from the fender
at the point where you want the tire
side wall to be. On lowered vehicles
be sure to take suspension travel
into consideration to avoid tire to
fender rubbing when suspension becomes
compressed (i.e.; going over a dip
in the road).
Next, measure
in from the taut string to the mounting
surface of your car's hubs.
From this measurement
subtract the side wall bulge of the
tire you will be using and the results
will equal your front space.
By subtracting
the front space from the overall rim
width you get backspacing. (Note:
"Overall rim width" is one inch wider
than "rim width" because of the tire
beads. A 15"x7" wheel is approximately
8" wide overall.)
